Video of The Day: Jesca Hoop
There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.
A sweet, almost innocent sentiment exists in Jesca Hoop's lilting "Outside of Eden," especially with the additional vocal talents of her 12 year-old nephew Justis. Hoop took inspiration for the song from both feminism/encouraging men to love women as well as the technology-centric childhood many kids come of age in today that so differs from the very recent past.
The song has a tender intimacy, especially in the video's focused subjects of Jesca and Justis. It's such a pure visual, aunt and nephew, singing together in Silverlake, shot on 16 mm film. A lovely video for a loving, lovely song.
