Video Of The Day: DeVotchKa

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video Of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

There's nothing around quite like DeVotchKa, with their beautiful smoke swirls of enveloping, eclectic noise. "Straight Shot" is true to form; a heady, mysteriously romantic folktale with a shapeshifting, timeless enchantment.

The song's video captures the song's sense of nostalgia and whimsy to perfection with a Victorian dancehall vibe. The remarkable warmth of DeVotchKa's sound is matched by the cinematography, and the quirkiness is also spot on. An absolutely enchanting song with an equally fantastical video.
