Video of The Day: Hilary Woods

There's a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

The quiet defiance in Hilary Woods's new "Prodigal Dog" is spine-chillingly compelling. "Your loving was never here," she sings in an almost whisper, while beautiful swells of melancholic noise rush in behind. The dig in the title of the song is echoed in the subtle storm within.

The black and white video is captivating in its own right. The close-up shots convey a sense of both freedom and, as Woods intended, claustrophobia.

"Prodigal Dog" can be found on the forthcoming Colt, out June 8 on Sacred Bones. As a little bonus, check out "Black Rainbow," also from Colt.
