Remix Fix: Boy Azooga/Hookworms
In theory I like the idea of the remix: taking someone else's song and tweaking it the way you want it done. It's a great means for completely redoing something, and for reinterpretation. Sometimes remixes go awry, and sometimes they're better than the original. Remix Fix is all about the happy medium when a remix totally nails it and makes a song that much better.
Not all that long ago at all, I spent some time loving up on Boy Azooga's "Face Behind Her Cigarette," basically because it's a ridiculously awesome song. Go ahead and listen to it now to have it fresh in your mind.
This sassy little song has newly been given a makeover by MJ of the mighty Hookworms. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this reimagining has shades of the intense, turbulent psych contortions a la Hookworms, while also getting in some arched-eyebrow synth antics. It's a doozy of a remix, and certainly does the Cardiff outfit's original proud.
