Sounds of Hopscotch 2017 #19: Advance Base

It's time once again to cast a longing glance down to Raleigh and the delectable Hopscotch. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best festivals around, and since 2010 it's been doing nothing but get bigger and better every year. Sadly, I won't be there this year, but I've pored over the lineup and have a handful of picks that I think you should pay close attention to.

Say the words "depressed, nostalgia-obsessed lo-fi pop" to me and odds are good I'll be into it. So it goes with Advance Base, the new project of former Casiotone for The Painfully Alone's Owen Ashworth. Ashworth's self-descriptors are spot on, his songs ache with a sense of palpable melancholy and regret. Highly relatable and highly listenable.

Advance Base plays Lincoln at 9:30 PM on 9/9.
