Good Cover Version: JEFF The Brotherhood Does Mazzy Star

Pulp gave the world the song "Bad Cover Version." But seeing as I'm a sonic optimist, I'm of the belief that there's more likely than not more good cover versions floating around than bad ones. Good Cover Version celebrates the good, and leaves all that bad and ugly stuff alone.

When I heard that JEFF The Brotherhood had covered Mazzy Star, I was all sorts of intrigued. After all, those boys are raucous as all get out, how on earth would they handle the layers of lovely emoting done by the one and only Mazzy Star? Quite well, it turns out. The dudes worked up a sneeringly sludgy, gritty cover of "Mary of Silence," totally revamping it into a creeping, rambling slow motion dirge rock mess. And as far as I'm concerned, it sounds mighty good.
