Guest Best Of: Starring LG Galleon (Dead Leaf Echo)

It's time for another year to come to an end, and y'all know what that means...Best Of lists! In honor of the wrapping up of 2014, I'm collecting lists from friends for another year, and mine will be coming in the kinda sorta near future. In the meantime, check out what some pretty awesome folks had to say about some of the pretty awesome records that came out over the past 365 days.

My next guest comes to us from Dead Leaf Echo, the Brooklyn outfit that ties together a blend of psych, shoegaze, new romantic/80s synth, and hints of industrial elements into a wonderful, noisy sprawl. LG Galleon is at the epicenter of the whole thing, doing double duty on guitar and vocals. The band released the true.deep.sleeper EP last year, and if you haven't caught it yet make sure you do so. Here's what LG had to say about last year's bumper crop of musical goodness.

I don't have the funds to splurge on physical releases but I am super lucky to have some friends in great bands who have hooked up some vinyl/cassettes for us on the road. These are in no particular order:

Auburn Lull: Static Partition Cassette Release. #1 ambient release this year. (Geographic North)

Tyburn Saints: With the Night in Our Eyes Flesh for Lulu returns! Sad to lose them to the West Coast after doing a bunch of fun shows with them out on Rockaway Beach and Northside Festival. Label: Balacava Records.

Cruel Summer: S/T One of my 3 fave SF bands now and the one doing it with the most noise. Beautiful Die-Cut Sleeve Design. (My ST. MT)

Slowness:
How to Keep from Falling off a Mountain The other SF band and old friends for years. LP#2 for them. (Self-Released)

Ringo Deathstarr: God's Dream These dudes don't quit and are always upping their game, sounds like the Pumpkins left an impression on this release. (Neon Sigh)

Bloody Knives/SVI Split: 2 great bands one great split, what more could you ask for? (Accidental Guest)

Tennis System: Technicolor Blind Finally got my hands on this one after hearing some of these jams from our tour with them in 2013. Glad to see it hit vinyl. (Papercup)

Lightfoils: S/T Chicago band glad to see this one finally come out after doing shows with them for 3 or so years. They love that word shoegaze. (Saint Marie)

Walking Bicycles:
To Him that Wills the Way Actually never played with them but got hooked up with this 12" in Chicago along with a great time. Hope to see them live one day. (Highwheel)

Vibragun: S/T Seattle band that we’ve done shows with out on the road in the past and have been waiting for their full length for a few years. (Self-Released)

7" section

Population: Relic/Mourning Dawn (Nostalgium Directive)
Killer Designed 7" Chicago buds

Elika: Girls be Serious (2 of 3) I can't wait for the 3rd one to complete the series. (Saint Marie)

Crimson Wave: 7" Dark Baltimore rock that reminded me of when I used to listen to Scrawl and Come. (Accidental Guest)
