Sounds Of Secret Stages 2014 #9: The Debauchees

Y'all know I've got all sorts of love for Sweet Home Alabama, and if there was any way I could be in Birmingham this weekend I would be. You see, Secret Stages is this weekend! If you're not familiar, it's a little festival devoted to the best of new (primarily) Southern music, and I'm just dying to go check it out. So, since I can't be there, here's a few bands I'd definitely be making time for.

I'm kinda into Louisville's The Debauchees, y'all, and not just because I feel in tune with their name. It's because the band is a gathering of three youngins who make a sound that's hard to pin down, hard to categorize, but entirely easy to listen to. There's definite specters of the New York sound as filtered through the spectrum of Blondie and Television, but there's a freshness to their noise as well. And yet you might get the sense that, while they're having fun, they've seen it all before. Curious, indeed.
