Guest Best Of: Starring Grant Widmer (Generationals)

Y'all know that my Best Of 2013 is a little ways away (I promise, it'll be earlier than last year's roundup), but to get you in the end of year mood, I thought I'd ask a few musician friends for their picks for the best records of this year. I'm also nosy/curious, and just wanted to see what they'd choose. After all, as I said last year, a person's record selections say a lot about them.

I'm currently reading a biography about Huey Long, the notorious/legendary Louisiana politico, so it seems somehow fitting that the first installment of this year's guest postings just so happens to arrive via that very same state. Generationals, out of the one and only Big Easy, have themselves released a mighty fine lp this year (spoiler alert: it will be on my very own Best Of list), and Mister Grant Widmer has settled upon some selections of his own. Read on to see what got Grant's attention this year, and be sure to give the Generationals good time release Heza some attention as well.

Nick Lowe - Quality Street
Splashh - Comfort
Brass Bed - The Secret Will Keep You
Earl Sweatshirt - Doris
James Blake - Overgrown
Lorde - Pure Heroine
Haim - Days Are Gone
Mac Demarco - II
Mikal Cronin - MCII
