Video of The Day: Too Free
There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.
Sounding a little like something that got stuck in a time-space vacuum between current day DC and the floor at Factory Records circa the mid 80s, Too Free's "ATM" is a captivating, sensuous mass of exploratory, throbbing beats, saucy rhythms, and melting butter vocals (courtesy Awad Bilal). And I all sorts of love it.
This intriguing, juicy hip-shaker can be found on the trio's (Bilal, Carson Cox, and Don Godwin) Sister Polygon debut, Love in High Demand, out February 21.
The video keeps things on topic, feeling itself a little 80s clubby with black and white backgrounds, the band shot in both color and black and white while a variety of color tricks are effectively employed. Things feel a little frenzied, but in the most artful of ways, and the video, like the song, is a whole lot of fun.
