Video of The Day: Grant Earl LaValley
There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.
There's a lovely sense of intimacy in Grant Earl LaValley's "Summer Angels." This desert-via-Midwest troubadour's take on dusty, trippy folk feels bathed in a sunset glow, haunted by ghosts past, present, and yet to come dancing under blankets of stars. LaValley's direct, plaintive tones spin a poignant yarn indeed, and the song almost feels as though it ends on a question mark.
Picking up on the vintage notes in "Summer Angels," the video feels so very 70s, with its sun-bleached colors, close-up shots of LaValley, and the far out footwear that makes a few appearances as the video rolls along. The video shares the intimate feel that the song harnesses so well, the tight shots on Grant capturing it all.
