Video of The Day: The Florets

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Melbourne outfit The Florets released their debut EP Friction Made Fiction this summer, and you'll find the subject of today's Video of The Day on that very EP. With a deliberate, drawling jangle and syrupy vocals, "Five Foot Vice" comes across as the sonic equivalent of a tipsily raised eyebrow across the bar. It's a song made for dim dive bar lighting and surreptitious looks at impossibly attractive bad news boys and girls.

The video, shot on 16mm film, picks up on the idea of temptation and trouble, and sees the band members on a run of the mill rainy night that turns out to be anything but. A moody, atmospheric little clip that really works with the song.
