Video of The Day: Elephant Stone

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Speaking about the inspiration for Elephant Stone's latest single/album "Hollow World"/Hollow, frontfellow and sitar wiz extraordinaire Rishi Dhir commented that "If social media has taught us anything, it’s that there are a lot of unhappy people out there who are trying to find a way out. They are looking for meaning and something to believe in…or nothing to believe in…"

And what's the answer? Cling to belief in humanity or embrace the starkness of emotional nihilism? If "Hollow World" is any indication, Elephant Stone is still on the side of humanity at large, as depressing and bleak as it oftentimes is. The song is a resplendently sparkling psych gem, one foot on an astral plane and another stepping through prior decades on its way to join its mate.

For the video, the Montreal outfit's ethereal jam is visualized in colorful animation with a very retro feel. A teasing "To be continued" pops up at the very end of the clip, and one can only guess as to what Elephant Stone might have hiding up their collective sleeve.

For folks going to Levitation this year, Elephant Stone plays Barracuda this Friday, November 8.
