Video of The Day: Orouni

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

There's a wonderfully bittersweet, drizzly kind of melancholy to Orouni's "The Lives of Elevators." The evocative song calls to mind the delicate wistfulness of Belle & Sebastian; that comfortable, forlornly acute feeling of the blues, the little black cloud twee that the Scots so perfected, but with a Parisian panache.

Directed by Ange Leccia, the video captures the tone of the song splendidly. The NYC setting and rainy night shots bring that certain big city isolation to the song while also referencing the inspiration for the song - a New Yorker article about someone stuck in an elevator for nearly 2 days. A truly lovely pairing, indeed.
