Video of The Day: O Future

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

With an frosty, ethereal eeriness, O Future's "Telephone" is a heady little slinker. Calling to mind the chilly landscapes of Goldfrapp's glorious Felt Mountain, "Telephone" is a synth-laden examination of the dissatisfaction modern isolation can bring - even when it's self-inflicted.

Says O Future's Katherine Mills Rymer, "The only good and spicy phone calls come from a new lover, an old lover, a crush or your best friend. Maybe when you find out you inherited you dream house. That phone call would be great. But most times, 99 percent of times, no one calls. Except the fantasy cruise lines which declares...You been selected.. and you have won." Her haunting, prettily vacant, breathy refrain of "I have won" adds a final exclamation point to the duo's spot-on narrative.

The pair's self-directed video gets high marks for its creative use of gold lamé, strong lighting, and very slow motion that all lend a sense of theatre to the song's already strong flair for the dramatic.
