Video of The Day: Shana Falana

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Shana Falana wrote "Come and Find Me" a decade or so ago, when she was living in NYC and was not in the best of places. Says Shana, "I thought I was waiting for my love, my prince, my savior to come to me. But since then I’ve realized it was a plea to myself." The song has such a fragility, a delicate feeling that, despite the quiet, whisperlike quality also feels quite powerful. There's also an opulence to this transfixing, caught breath of a song that's just beautiful.

The video is just the way it should be for a song like "Come and Find Me." The focus is on Shana, head above dark water, light dancing all around. Slightly out-of-focus, the blurriness is offset by the joy in Falana's smiling face. Simple, intimate, and truly captivating.

You can find "Come and Find Me" on Falana's new record Darkest Light, out in October on Arrowhawk.
