Video of The Day: Lower Dens

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Lower Dens released new song "Galapagos" earlier this week, and it's seriously stunning. Without question, you should spend a whole lot of time listening to it. But today I'm in the mood to go back a few months, to the Baltimore outfit's beautiful, powerful "Young Republicans." Make no mistake, it's a political fight song, prettily wrapped up in some exquisite, languidly sophisticated gloss. Only Lower Dens could make a song decrying the bottomless, soulless evil of the right wing sound this sensuous.

The video's play on early '80s camp belies the vampiric bloodsucking horror of the new generation of ultra-conservative leeches that's moving into the mainstream from behind closed doors.
