Good Cover Version: Shame does B-52s
Pulp gave the world the song "Bad Cover Version." But seeing as I'm a sonic optimist, I'm of the belief that there's more likely than not more good cover versions floating around than bad ones. Good Cover Version celebrates the good, and leaves all that bad and ugly stuff alone.
In honor of their show tonight at the Black Cat, I present to you Shame's absolutely divine cover of "Rock Lobster."
Recorded at London's RAK Studios, this jittery, breathless rampage through one of the Athens band's finest audio moments is a peach. As brash and chaotic (though not quite as camp) as the original, with the tongue-in-cheek attitude firmly in place, Shame's reimagining of this B-52s classic hits all the right spots. Once I start listening to this I can't stop. Hopefully, provided of course you're not already in love with the song, you will be as of today.
