Video of The Day: Waves of Dread
There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.
I usually feel overwhelming waves of dread anytime I tune in to the news these days, so it's refreshing to talk about an altogether different sort of Waves of Dread. This Newcastle (Heaton, if you're getting pinpoint about it) outfit makes a delightfully dark, bittersweet dreamgaze in their song "Lay," a two and a half minute burst of dark gray clouds cut through with the most joyous bursts of sun. Thick, tremulous fuzz and hazy vocals take on a restless, almost dissatisfied attitude in this sonic cloudburst, though there's something about the song that leaves a feeling of exhilaration behind as it dissipates. Very promising stuff indeed.
The song's video is a black and white whirl through beautiful Barcelona, the impossibly photogenic city adding heightened drama to this already captivating song.
