Video of The Day: Julia Jacklin

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Julia Jacklin is kind of amazing. Her voice is just gorgeous, the kind of voice that leads one to earn the "rare talent" moniker, and each note she puts forth seems to contain a complex range of emotions. Jacklin's songs are complicated, and they feel timeless.

"Head Alone" is yet another outstanding effort from Jacklin's forthcoming second record, Crushing. The feeling of intimacy in the song is typical of Julia's work, cutting to the quick in the most beautiful ways. For the video things were kept simple, and according to Jacklin, "This was the last take; I was exhausted from chasing the car but I think it worked because I gave up being graceful. I couldn't think of what to do for this song because the words mean a lot to me and I didn't want to distract people from the song. I just wanted to act the way the song makes me feel. Empowered and hopeful." I'd call that a job well done.
