Video of The Day: Shannon Shaw

There's a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

Shannon Shaw's forthcoming solo record is called Shannon In Nashville. Some of y'all might be furrowing your brow right about now, as the name certainly does bear a resemblance to a peach of a record by one of the Shannon & The Clams frontlady's beautifully melancholic forebears. The album in question, of course, is Dusty In Memphis.

With "Broke My Own," Shaw shines luminous like so many constellations. Her voice is just stunning, so full of a roller coaster's worth of emotion and a towering, graceful delivery that sounds right where it belongs backed by the richness of the full band behind her. I'd say this heart-stopping treasure proves that she's worthy of consideration right alongside the one and only Miss Springfield.

The song's video is, not surprisingly, vintage in style, with backup dancers, fluffy clouds, and Shaw herself, in 60s-inspired eyeliner. Absolutely glorious.
