Video of The Day: Preoccupations

There's a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

I haven't even heard the whole record yet, but based solely on "Disarray," the new Preoccupations record New Material has to be one of the best records of the entire year. Instantly gripping, "Disarray" offers a layered soundscape that brings together washes of golden fuzz with more angular, bruising edges and vocals of the post punk these Canadians have been churning out for years. It's basically perfect.

The video, too, is stellar. Directed by Ruff Mercy, the gorgeous setting and frequent abstractions play up their sonic parallels. Together, it's all rather stunning.
