Video of The Day: The Beat Escape

There's a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

There's something more than a little hypnotic about the pulsations in The Beat Escape's "Moon In Aquarius." The Montreal duo's moody undulations definitely reference 1980s Factory Records beats and angles and certain sounds from that blackest of black comedy Heathers, while hushed vocals add to a sense of heightened awareness.

The video is a well-styled nod to the 80s, too, a sort of interior still life.

The Beat Escape's forthcoming record, on which you can find the excellent "Moon In Aquarius," Life Is Short The Answer's Long is released April 27 on Bella Union.
