Video of The Day: Amen Dunes
There's a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.
I really can't overstate just how happy I am that there's a new Amen Dunes record out soon (Freedom, out March 30 on Sacred Bones).
"Blue Rose" is Damon McMahon's second video from Freedom, and further illustrates his shift into the realms of danceable dream music. To my ears it doesn't get much better than McMahon's cherubic vocals against a baggy-esque beat. The song's title makes me think of Tennessee Williams (a certain line in The Glass Menagerie), and the fractured father-son relationship at the heart of the song certainly jibes with the Williams oeuvre of fractured relationships quite well. As for the video, skateboarding, Sony video games, and meaningful glances all pop up in "Blue Rose," and all fit the song's mood perfectly.
