Video of The Day: Line & Circle

There's a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

It's not everyday you see a video starring Socrates (or a dude dressed up in Socratic finery). But Line & Circle's video for "Vicious Folly" goes all out in Ancient Rome, robes, ruins and all.

Don't be fooled by the impeccable jangling dreaminess of the song, mind you. According to the band, the inspiration for the Vicious Folly EP is down to the darkness of the current political climate; "The events of the past year got us thinking about other periods in history when it felt like society was betraying its best values. The trial and death of Socrates came to mind, when a society became so shaken by its fall from grace, that it turned on its own greatest thinker, blamed him for its decline, and then killed him." That such a gloomy critique on the historical follies of men can sound so utterly disarming is a testament to the band's ability to make some seriously stunning dreampop.
