Good Cover Version: Cicada Rhythm Does Bob Dylan

Pulp gave the world the song "Bad Cover Version." But seeing as I'm a sonic optimist, I'm of the belief that there's more likely than not more good cover versions floating around than bad ones. Good Cover Version celebrates the good, and leaves all that bad and ugly stuff alone.

When last we visited with Cicada Rhythm, the Athens, GA folk outfit was about to play Savannah Stopover. Fast forward a few months and now they're working on a covers project, a group of songs that includes this charming, modern Americana rendition of one of my favorite Dylan songs, "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." The boy-girl vocals with that hint of twang and a lovely, luxuriant lap steel make this feel like a totally different song to Dylan's original. And that's no small feat.
