Sounds of Secret Stages 2017 #7: Jabee

Alabama in August is a pretty hot place, and it's not just because of the heat (and the humidity). Secret Stages has been keeping things hot in Birmingham for years, staying true to their mission of showcasing musical talent from across the South (and beyond). This year is no different. If you're free August 4-5, you might just take a jaunt down to Bham to check out this Dixie dandy.

When Chuck D says your music "has the potential to change the world," it's no small thing. It may even be tough to live up to that level of expectation. But listening to Jabee for the first time, I'm inclined to believe the hype. There's a purity in his voice, but beyond that there's sheer power. It's not in your face, necessarily, but in his voice and in his rhymes there's something that's going to grab your attention and not let go. Until he's good and ready, that is. Beats that nod to the old school are an added bonus.
