Video Of The Day: The Rakes

There's a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

For some reason, I've been sentimentally remembering bands of old. Bands that are no longer with us, and bands that for a brief, shining moment were the apples of my eye. Before they dropped off into the music ether, that is. The Rakes, for example, were massive favorites of mine in the early Naughties.

The electric jolt of "Strasbourg" really demonstrates just what made The Rakes so magnetic to yours truly. Put front fellow Alan Donohoe's alternating shoutiness/smooth velvetiness alongside those relentless, buzzing guitars and the end result is just over two and a half minutes of magic. I listened to this song more times that I could ever possibly count. Those were the days, my friends. Those were the days.
