Good Cover Version: The Last Shadow Puppets Does Leonard Cohen

Pulp gave the world the song "Bad Cover Version." But seeing as I'm a sonic optimist, I'm of the belief that there's more likely than not more good cover versions floating around than bad ones. Good Cover Version celebrates the good, and leaves all that bad and ugly stuff alone.

Over time, "Is This What You Wanted" has become one of my very favorite Leonard Cohen songs. No one will better Cohen, of course, but I'm in favor of this cover done by The Last Shadow Puppets. Their polished, almost lounge lizard treatment does indeed give a new skin to the classic, breathing a different life into it altogether. Not bad indeed.
