Remix Fix: Hot Chip/Soulwax
In theory I like the idea of the remix: taking someone else's song and tweaking it the way you want it done. It's a great means for completely redoing something, and for reinterpretation. Sometimes remixes go awry, and sometimes they're better than the original. Remix Fix is all about the happy medium when a remix totally nails it and makes a song that much better.
I find this Soulwax remix of the dynamo dance party Hot Chip jam "Huarache Lights" to be well and truly fascinating. In giving it the Belgian touch, the Soulwax treatment gives the song a cold, clinical, efficient electronic touch. It's like a dance song for droids, perhaps? After all, as the song goes, "Machines are great/but best when they come to life." It's an angle that really takes center stage with this remix, and mercy does it work.
And just as a PSA, don't hit play if you have any sort of epilepsy.

The bar staff at this place was professional and their drinks ensured us a fun night in the city. I can't wait to go back. Most of the negative elements of going to a more popular place are avoided at New York event venues here; the staff was really mature and respectful.
