Good Cover Version: Ezra Furman Does LCD Soundsystem
Pulp gave the world the song "Bad Cover Version." But seeing as I'm a sonic optimist, I'm of the belief that there's more likely than not more good cover versions floating around than bad ones. Good Cover Version celebrates the good, and leaves all that bad and ugly stuff alone.
This one came out a few months back, during the Summer of '15, but it's been in my head quite a bit lately and seeing as Ezra Furman will be in town on February 9th, it felt more than a little timely to give it a mention. Furman's version of the impeccable LCD Soundsystem song "I Can Change" is itself a treat. Simplistic acoustic strumming and Furman's forlorn falsetto and off-kilter warble turn the song into an ode that's equal parts hopeful and resigned. I'm going to cross my fingers and hope Ezra gives this one a go when he's in town.
