Good Cover Version: Southerly Does Low

Pulp gave the world the song "Bad Cover Version." But seeing as I'm a sonic optimist, I'm of the belief that there's more likely than not more good cover versions floating around than bad ones. Good Cover Version celebrates the good, and leaves all that bad and ugly stuff alone.

O, how I do love a good tearjerker of a song. Low's "When I Go Deaf" is certainly a heck of a moper, and so too is Southerly's gloriously glum cover. The first in a covers series done by the Portland band, "When I Go Deaf" is over seven minutes of beautiful, tenderly fractured sadness. Happily, the band is offering the song up free of charge. I suggest you jump on it immediately.
