The Untitled Interview #212: Starring Adrian Olsen (Avers)
My love of Richmond's music scene hasn't ever been on the hush. But the talent down in RVA is undeniable, and gives me plenty to swoon over.
Very much in the swoon-worthy category is that supergroup Avers, a collaborative effort between some ridiculously talented people that resulted in one of my favorite records of all of last year. If you haven't yet dug in to the Avers brand of enveloping, multi-faceted, all-consuming psych rock, please do so at your earliest convenience. And while you do, check out what Avers-ite Adrian Olsen had to say about all things Avers.
Fuzzy Logic: How the hell are you?
Adrian Olsen: Good. Slightly car sick in the van, wishing I was on a beach.
FL: What was the last song you listened to?
AO: "New York State of Mind" - Nas.
FL: Playing music is:
AO: Fun.
FL: What album most made you realize you wanted to make music?
AO: Tom Petty Damn the Torpedoes.
FL: Beatles or Stones?
AO: Stones.
FL: Top 5 albums (of now, of this week, of ever):
AO: In no order-
Sky Blue Sky

Kid A
On the beach
FL: Favorite music-related movie?
AO: Stop Making Sense.
FL: Half-full or half-empty?
AO: Half-empty.
FL: Which of your peers do you think is making the best music these days?
AO: Twain.
FL: What's the first thing you think when you wake up in the morning?
AO: Coffee.
FL: Little-known Avers fact?
AO: Charlie (Glenn) is actually over 18.
FL: The greatest record store in the world is:
AO: Amoeba.
FL: Your boots were made for:
AO: People with a size 12 foot.
FL: Shaken or stirred?
AO: Shaken.
FL: Favorite venue (either to play or to visit)?
AO: Johnny Brendas in Philly
FL: Best piece of advice you've ever been given?
AO: Don't break 2 laws at the same time.
FL: What is it that makes Richmond such a great spot for music?
AO: It's a cheap(ish) city that is centrally located with a growing arts community. Also it's a river city. That seems important for some reason.
FL: If you weren't in a band you'd be?
AO: Doing my day job of engineering/producing records.
FL: If you were so inclined, whom would you form a tribute band in honor of?
AO: The Kinks.
