Sounds of Secret Stages 2015 #1: Sweet Crude
One of these years, by heaven, I'll make it down to Birmingham for Secret Stages. Sadly, it won't be this year, so once again I'll be missing out on the great lineup the festival folks have put together for the fifth iteration of this special event. Nevertheless, your lady friend has done some scoping out of the lineup, and of course I have some recommendations. If you're doing Secret Stages, check these folks out. If you're not, check 'em out anyway!
I am intrigued by the wonderful Cajun-ness of Sweet Crude, the Louisianans who bring their love of Cajun culture effortlessly and endearingly into their buoyant, delightful indie folk pop. In their own words:
"We are indigenous to South Louisiana. We would like to show the world that we can make progressive music that also embraces this region’s French-speaking tradition. We are joining a small but fervent group of young Louisianians engaged in keeping the language relevant via art. Also we would like to drink whiskey and dance all the time."
Who can argue with that? Heck, I'd love to drink whiskey and dance right along with these little darlings.
