The Untitled Interview #209: Starring Stephane Senecal-Tremblay (Pet Sun)
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada is a pretty big place. So it stands to reason that there's going to be some pretty good music coming out of that city. My new favorite Canadian stoner fuzz makers, Pet Sun, are one such example.
I quite like their penchant for swirling, heavy fuzzed-out noise with trace elements of pop hidden just under the surface. Or as they call it, "death garage." Whatever you feel like calling it, it's loud, it's got some psych undertones, and it's pretty dang fun. The four dudes are currently taking their show on the road, and will pull their wagon into DC on the 7th with a stop at the Electric Maid. To whet your appetite, read on to see what Stephane Senecal-Tremblay has to say about all things Pet Sun, The Darkness, and where he loves to plug in for a show.
Fuzzy Logic: How the hell are you?
Stephane Senecal-Tremblay: We're great. Laying by a lake drinking coffee in the sun.
FL: What was the last song you listened to?
SS-T: "Suicide" by Dust.
FL: Playing music is:
SS-T: Surprisingly erotic.
FL: What album most made you realize you wanted to make music?
SS-T: Cliche as fuck but probably Nevermind.
FL: Beatles or Stones?
SS-T: Stones but preferably Zeppelin.
FL: Top 5 albums (of now, of this week, of ever):
SS-T: Slaves and The Darkness are releasing new records today. Any greatest hits record like Queen or Marvin Gaye.
FL: Favorite music-related movie?
SS-T: Detroit Rock City for sure. Inside Ilwyn Davis or whatever was the worst movie we've ever seen. Horrible.
FL: Half-full or half-empty?
SS-T: We are half-full kinda people.
FL: Which of your peers do you think is making the best music these days?
SS-T: Red Lines. "I like rough sex" is awesome.
FL: What's the first thing you think when you wake up in the morning?
SS-T: What time is it? Or I need water.
FL: Little-known Pet Sun fact?
SS-T: We like to spend time with our families.
FL: The greatest record store in the world is:
SS-T: Tidal. Our record is up there. Shout out to Jay Zed!
FL: Your boots were made for:
SS-T: Oxfords not brogues. We are honorary Kingsman. Great flick.
FL: Shaken or stirred?
SS-T: Both pls!
FL: Favorite venue (either to play or to visit)?
SS-T: We always have fun at Baltimore House in our hometown of Hamilton.
FL: Best piece of advice you've ever been given?
SS-T: Live slow. Die whenever #sloth.
FL: If you weren't in a band you'd be?
SS-T: A Kingsman.
FL: If you were so inclined, whom would you form a tribute band in honor of?
SS-T: The Cranberries.
FL: Best song ever written?
SS-T: Sweeney Todd soundtrack.
