Video Of The Day: Hiss Golden Messenger

There’s a bunch of videos out there. Some of them are good. Some of them are a cut above. I like to think my picks for Video Of The Day are a cut (or two) above.

I stumbled upon Hiss Golden Messenger a few years back at one of those most excellent Hopscotch festivals down Carolina way, and was all sorts of blown away by M. C. Taylor and his simple, yet stunning, rootsy/Americana-country vibes. In preparation for the forthcoming Hiss Golden Messenger record (out in September), the clip for "Lucia" has been unveiled, and it's pretty much the perfect visual representation of HGM. Shot so prettily with a vintage camera, the video is all Taylor and his guitar, while the song is Taylor's knockout voice and gentle strumming. It's delicate and lovely, and I think it makes for quite a start to the day.
