Guest Best Of: Starring Nick Furgiuele (Gringo Star)

Y'all know that my Best Of 2013 is a little ways away (I promise, it'll be earlier than last year's roundup), but to get you in the end of year mood, I thought I'd ask a few musician friends for their picks for the best records of this year. I'm also nosy/curious, and just wanted to see what they'd choose. After all, as I said last year, a person's record selections say a lot about them.

I think we can all agree that Gringo Star is one of the best dang band names around. They're also one of the best bands at purveying a swinging 60s-psych rock jangling shimmy shake, especially when on stage. The lovely Mister Nick Gurgiuele (singing/multi-instrumentalizing) had a busy year, with the Gringos taking frequent roadtrips, but still managed to send me a list of some of his favorite records of 2013. Read on, friends. Read on.

Shantih Shantih - Something Else to Drink
The Harlequins - Sex Change
J Roddy Walston and The Business - Essential Tremors
Turf War - Cheers to The Years
Ruby Velle and The Soulphonics - It's About Time
