The Untitled Interview #196: Starring Clinton Doggett (More Humans)

So there's this show going on. It's tonight. It's going to be so awesome that it will rewrite your current understanding of the word awesome. More Humans, a decidedly fantastic metro DC musical group, will be performing at this very event. It is not outside the realms of possibility that things will get more than a little raucous when they get up on that Velvet Lounge stage. Raucous, noisy, insane...rock will be brought.

Speaking on behalf of the More Humans camp is Mister Clinton Doggett. See below for insights into the world of More Humans, from hand modeling to the joys of DC record stores to Buddy Holly. In the words of the man himself, let's do this! And make sure you get out to see Clinton and co. do their thing this evening. You shan't be disappointed.

Fuzzy Logic: How the hell are you?
Clinton Doggett: Oh man, we're busy!  The band is finally at a place where we're ready to put pen to paper on the new record, so we're building up to courage to tell everything else in our lives to get out of the way.

FL: What was the last song you listened to?

CD: "Car" by Built to Spill.

FL: Playing music is:
CD: Complicated.

FL: What album most made you realize you wanted to make music?
CD: I can't speak for my bandmates, but for me it was probably the Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs, because it captured my imagination about how big an album can be as an idea.

FL: Beatles or Stones?
CD: Beatles, but can't we all just get along?

FL: Top 5 albums (of now, of this month, or of ever):
CD: Some recent releases all of us have enjoyed are the newest albums from: Kurt Vile, Tame Impala, Deerhunter, Kendrick Lamar, and Frank Ocean.

FL: Favorite music-related movie?
CD: If it counts, Sweet and Lowdown.

FL: Half-full or half-empty?
CD: Full!

FL: Which of your peers do you think is making the best music these days?
CD: There are lots of great bands in DC right now, and I'm most excited to hear new records from The Caribbean and Deleted Scenes.

FL: What’s the first thing you think when you wake up in the morning?
CD: LET'S DO THIS.

FL: Little-known More Humans fact?
CD: Marko is a hand model.

FL: The greatest record store in the world is:
CD: There are too many great ones to choose. With that said, I was up in Massachusetts this summer and found myself in Mystery Train Records (Gloucester), one of the best I've been to. We also love our many DC records stores -- Red Onion, Crooked Beat, CD Cellar, etc.

FL: Shaken or stirred?
CD: Shaken, I think is the only acceptable answer in a post-Bond universe.

FL: Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
CD: Stand up straight.

FL: If you weren’t in a band you’d be:
CD: A hand model.

FL: If you were so inclined, whom would you form a tribute band in honor of?
CD: Andrew and Marko would start a Melvins tribute band in a heartbeat. I'd try my best to keep up.

FL: Best song ever written?
CD: "Everyday" by Buddy Holly.
