Meet Luckless

It's been a little while since we talked about New Zealand, friends, so I thought today might be a good time to work on that wee oversight. As luck would have it, I recently got an email from Auckland duo Luckless, and so impressed was I that I'm now simply itching to share their wonderfulness with you.

Luckless is Ivy Rossiter and Will Wood, and together the two create a sort of lo-fi urban folk cloaked in the slightly eerie darkness of a rainy, misty day (or, as they call it, "melodic, neurotic, melancholic indie rock"); simple but slinky and rather special to listen to. Wonderfully scuzzy guitar and spare drums create the perfect backdrop for the pair's dramatic vocal play. Rossiter's gently powerful voice brings the drama, while Wood's provides the mid-range, calm foil. They've got me hook, line, and sinker, they do. I can't wait to hear more out of these two.
