Sounds Of MACRoCk #5: White Laces
Early April in the Western Virginia mountains, friends, there’s nothin’ finer. Well, perhaps if you throw in a weekend’s worth of great bands. Oh hey, that’s exactly what happens every year at the Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference, otherwise known as MACRoCk. I went to my first MACRoCk last year and had such a grand ole time that I’m heading back down once again. Here’s a sampling of the bands that I’ll be taking in, and the bands you should get to know even if you’re not getting your MACRoCk on.
I remember running into my friend Landis at a show a few months back, maybe even the same night I most recently saw them live, and he informed me that his band, White Laces, had totally changed their sound. I furrowed my brow internally, not wanting to question the wisdom of a sonic switcheroo, but it seems the band knew what they were doing. The plumes of husky, rich textures bring together good old psych with good old shoegaze, and as I'm sure you'll concur once you listen to this live rendition of "Heavy Nights" whatever was changed was obviously a good move.
