Sounds Of MACRoCk #10: The Snowy Owls

Early April in the Western Virginia mountains, friends, there’s nothin’ finer. Well, perhaps if you throw in a weekend’s worth of great bands. Oh hey, that’s exactly what happens every year at the Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference, otherwise known as MACRoCk. I went to my first MACRoCk last year and had such a grand ole time that I’m heading back down once again. Here’s a sampling of the bands that I’ll be taking in, and the bands you should get to know even if you’re not getting your MACRoCk on.

I've been listening a whole bunch to the incredibly amazing Brian Jonestown Massacre record Methodrone lately, and the more I listen to that, the more I tend to hear that hazy, beautiful psych streaming like beams of golden sun in the music of The Snowy Owls. Seriously. Try it on for size. Mixed in with the Owls' blend of post-rock and shoegaze, there lives a little heavenly psych. By this point, it should also come as no surprise to you that I just all sorts of love those Richmond dudes, so guess who I'm going to make sure to see come this weekend? If you'll be in Harrisonburg, make sure they're on your list. You absolutely shan't be disappointed.
