The Untitled Interview #176 – SXSW Edition: Starring Bestial Mouths

One of the first harbingers of Spring is not, in fact, the adorable, fluffy robins hopping along looking for worms or the bold yellow bursts of daffodils blooming. Sure, the longer days and Daylight Savings Time act as pretty good indicators. But they're not what I had in mind. Nay, friends, one of the first signs of the new season is SXSW, the week of music and mayhem down in Austin. I wrangled some of the bands I'd want to see, if I was going, to get their take on this year's installment of South by Southwest.

Raise your hand if you think it's time for some serious fucking noise. Good, me too. Let's turn our collective attention to Bestial Mouths, four Los Angelenos who maketh much ear-shattering wails and howls and all manner of things. It's dramatic, aggressive, sexy, and at times even a little on the over the top side. And I decree it to be verily good indeed. Sensitive folks, avert thine ears. But for the rest of us, there's plenty of sweet, sweet sonic annihilation to go around. Read on to see the band's musings on SXSW 2012.

Fuzzy Logic: How are you getting to SXSW: plane, train, or automobile?
Lynette Cerezo: Automobile, sardined into a Toyota Matrix.

FL: Inevitably, you will forget to pack:
LC: 2 pairs of matching shoes so I will be stuck with the only pair I'm wearing which inevitably always seems to fall apart. I would say my lucky stones (Green, watermelon, and black tourmaline, hematite bloodstone bracelet) but I plan on wearing them days before we leave just in case. Should also help things run smooth before we leave. Black tourmaline repels negativity and keeps electronics working, mixed tourmaline bring luck and confidence, hematite was worn by Native Americans so they return from battle without any blood shed or injury. All this I definitely need.
Chris Myrick: I'm always worried I'm going to forget the power plug to something. A lot of stuff has weird, proprietary power adapters so if you don't have the right one you can't switch them out. I have nightmares about it.

FL: How many showcases/parties will you be playing?
LC: Just the one SXSW showcase. Less is more so I think we're just playing one well planned and well rested set.

FL: Band you're most looking forward to seeing at the festival?
LC: I'm actually really excited about catching new bands I haven't really discovered yet.
CM: We have a bunch of friends going this year too. So that will be awesome.

FL: What's the first thing you plan on doing upon arrival in Austin?
LC: Hopefully shower because we will be driving 20 hours straight.
CM: Probably food, then sleep.

FL: What was the first festival you ever attended, either as a musician or member of the general public?
LC: Either Fur is Dead benefit festival or maybe it was the very first Lollapalooza when Jane's Addiction headlined. We scored some guys free pizza and beer and braved the mosh pit to be upfront. My friends and I got pics taken for some magazine, or at least they claimed to be, because of our attire, I wonder if those are around?

FL: Favorite thing about festivals?
LC: People-watching
