Singles Club: Thieving Irons

It is a happy day indeed when one gets an email from the dear Thieving Irons camp about a new song! You might recall, darling loves, how much I adored the band's debut, This Midnight Hum. I was rather impatiently awaiting album #2, so that I could also love the heck out of it, and the fates have seen fit to soon align the stars so that wonderful event happens.

"So Long" is the first offering from record number the second, and I have to tell you, I'm finding it rather breathtaking. It's a definite shift in sound, moving away from the earnest, heart-on-sleeve Boss-esque compositions of This Midnight Hum and into territory that reminds me a lot of much-missed LA outfit The Broken West. The earnestness and the quality songwriting are still here, mind you, but in a totally different way. "So Long" is shimmery and shiny and new and altogether lovely, and I suspect it won't take long for it to become a favorite song. I hate to say it, because I would hate to encourage Thieving Irons to take a while between records, but the wait was definitely worth it.

This time, anyway. Don't go getting ideas, boys.
