Happy Birthday, Nancy

Her boots were, and will forever be made for walkin'. Today marks the birth of one of the most famous of celebrity spawn who actually made a name for themselves, Miss Nancy Sinatra. I for one love her style and that super thick eyeliner (don't knock it til you try it), and of course, her footwear. But there's definitely more to appreciate about the apple of Ole Blue Eye's baby blues than just her affinity for fashion.

Nancy is known best among hipsters for her superb collaborations with the incomparable Lee Hazlewood, who was the yin to her yang in terms of creating a knockout song. Not only did they work well together on songs, but Hazlewood also produced Nancy's slightly eyebrow-raising duet with her Pops, "Somethin' Stupid".

Nancy's sultry sass and Lee's earthy gravel tones worked like a charm together. I know Johnny & June first did "Jackson", but I must confess I like the Nancy & Lee rendition even better. Sorry, purists. And so, friends, put on those boots, drink a glass of summer wine, and think a thought of Nancy (& Lee) on this glorious, velvet morning.
